Samsung Galaxy S24 Updated, But No Camera Improvements Yet

For the last few months, users of the Samsung Galaxy S24 have been eagerly waiting for a significant update to the phone’s camera performance.

A new software update has started rolling out for the Samsung Galaxy S24, but it doesn’t bring the anticipated camera improvements. Instead, it mainly includes the August 2024 security patch and little else. Users of the Galaxy S24, for the last few months, have been eagerly waiting for a significant software update aimed at improving the phone’s camera performance.

Android Police reports that users of the smartphone on AT&T’s network in the United States have begun receiving this new firmware, labeled AXFJ. The update’s release notes, combined with its relatively small size of 467.93MB, indicate that it doesn’t contain any significant changes beyond the security patch update.

According to this same report, a well-known Samsung leaker, Ice Universe, posted on X (formerly Twitter) that the One UI 6.1.1 update for the Galaxy S24 series might have been delayed. He mentioned that while the firmware seems ready for release, the reason for its delay remains unknown. Unfortunately, this means Galaxy S24 users will have to wait even longer for the much-anticipated camera-focused update.

Alongside the Samsung Galaxy S24, the August 2024 security patch has also started rolling out for unlocked Galaxy S23 devices in the United States. This 420MB update is expected to reach other carriers and regions worldwide in the coming weeks.

If you own a Galaxy phone and want to check if the August 2024 firmware is available, you can do so by going to Settings, selecting Software update, and then choosing Download and install.

Samsung has also released a security bulletin for August 2024, which outlines the various fixes included in this update. The update addresses a number of security vulnerabilities, not only those specific to Android but also those unique to Samsung devices. The update fixes fourteen security issues related to Samsung devices, with ten classified as Moderate severity and three as High severity.

One particularly serious “Critical” vulnerability involved a flaw in the librtp.so file, which could allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code with system-level privileges. To exploit this vulnerability, however, some form of user interaction was necessary. This security issue was privately reported to Samsung back in early June.

This critical vulnerability affects all Samsung devices running Android 12, 13, and 14. Therefore, it’s highly recommended that users update their phones to the August 2024 security patch as soon as it becomes available to them to ensure their devices are protected.
