Blackmagic Design, a well-known maker of cinema cameras, recently announced a new app for Android phones. This app can record video in H.264 and H.265 formats. It also works well with the company’s video editing software, DaVinci Resolve, and its cloud services. The first version of the app, called Blackmagic Camera 1.0, only worked on a few specific phones, including some Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy models.
Now, the company has released an update called Blackmagic Camera 1.1. This new version works on more devices and comes with many new features. The list of supported phones now includes the Google Pixel 6, 6 Pro, and 6a, Samsung Galaxy S21 and S22 series, OnePlus 11 and 12, and Xiaomi 13 and 14 series.
Blackmagic Camera 1.1 Features
The new features in version 1.1 are quite impressive. Here are the main additions:
1. HDMI Monitoring: This feature allows you to connect your phone to an external monitor using an HDMI cable. This can be very helpful for seeing a bigger and clearer view of what you are recording.
2. 3D LUTs for Recording and Monitoring: LUTs (Look-Up Tables) are used to apply color grading to your videos. With this feature, you can use 3D LUTs while recording and monitoring your footage, giving you more control over the final look of your videos.
3. Pull Focus Transition Controls: This lets you smoothly change the focus from one subject to another while recording, which is great for creating professional-looking videos.
4. Improved Blackmagic Cloud Organization: Managing your files and projects in the Blackmagic Cloud is now easier and more organized.
5. Login Account within Blackmagic Cloud: You can now log into your account directly within the app to access your cloud projects and files.
6. Dim Screen While Recording: This option allows you to dim your phone’s screen while recording to save battery life.
7. Optional Image Noise Reduction and Sharpening: You can choose to reduce noise or sharpen your images while recording, depending on your needs.
8. Audio Level Pop-Up: This feature shows your audio levels on the screen, helping you ensure that your sound is recorded properly.
9. Japanese Translations: The app now supports Japanese language, making it accessible to more users.
10. Option to Not Generate a Proxy While Recording: You can choose not to create a lower-quality proxy version of your video while recording, saving storage space.
11. Save Clips to Any Location, Including External Storage: You can now save your recorded clips to any location on your phone, or even to an external storage device like a USB drive.
12. General Performance Improvements: The app runs more smoothly and efficiently with this update.
The Blackmagic Camera app is available for free on Google Play Store. DaVinci Resolve, the video editing software it works with, is also free, although there is a premium version available which is more advanced.
Overall, Blackmagic Camera 1.1 makes it easier to create professional-quality videos on a wider range of Android phones, with new features that enhance both the recording and editing processes.
