Google has launched the Pixel 9 Pro series, offering a new compact size with the Pixel 9 Pro featuring a 6.3-inch display, while the larger Pixel 9 Pro XL has a 6.8-inch screen. Both displays are Super Actua LTPO panels with high brightness (up to 3,000 nits) and a 1-120Hz refresh rate. The Pixel 9 Pro has a resolution of 1280×2856 pixels, and the Pixel 9 Pro XL has a slightly higher resolution of 1344×2992 pixels.
Google had one of its biggest smartphone launches yesterday with the four-member Pixel 9 series – Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. However, we’ll only discuss two of these – the Pixel 9 Pro and the Pixel 9 Pro XL.
Both phones have flat Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on top. For security, Google has replaced the optical fingerprint scanner with a faster ultrasonic one, which is 50% quicker and more reliable. The Pixel 9 Pro series also features a sleek design with flat sides and a mix of glossy metal frames and matte back panels. The two phones look nearly identical except for their size.

The camera setup includes a 50MP wide-angle main camera and two 48MP cameras for ultrawide and 5x telephoto zoom, all assisted by laser autofocus. The front camera is a new 42MP sensor, likely based on Samsung’s 50MP 3J1 sensor.
Both phones are powered by the new Tensor G4 chipset, featuring a 4nm design with a mix of high-performance and energy-efficient cores, and the Titan M2 security chip. They come with 16GB of RAM and storage options ranging from 128GB to 1TB. The new Exynos 5400 modem is said to improve efficiency.
The Pixel 9 Pro has a 4,700mAh battery, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL has a 5,060mAh battery. Both support 45W fast charging, reaching 70% in 30 minutes. Google’s Gemini AI is deeply integrated, offering features like suggesting recipes based on fridge contents, editing photos, and identifying content in screenshots. The phones also have a “Circle to Search” feature for quick web searches based on screen content. Google promises 7 years of software updates.
The Pixel 9 Pro series come in four colors: Obsidian, Hazel, Rose Quartz, and Porcelain, with pre-orders available now. The Pixel 9 Pro XL ships from August 22, and the Pixel 9 Pro from September 4 in the US, and September 9 in Europe. Prices start at $999/£999/€1,099 for the Pixel 9 Pro and $1,099/£1,099/€1,199 for the Pixel 9 Pro XL, with discounts available on higher storage models for a limited time.
