Huawei and MediaTek reportedly are collaborating to effectuate low-priced 5G smartphones. The device will be made by Huawei, while the pacemaker uses a 5G chipset made by MediaTek.
Quoting GizChina, an internal source in the industry said that MediaTek CEO Rick Tsai had met with TSMC semiconductor manufacturer to discuss the contract demand for 5G chipsets for the Huawei smartphone.
MediaTek’s 5G chipset has an integrated 5G Helio M70 modem and will be made with a 7nm fabrication process so it is power efficient. This chipset is believed to have a model number MT6885.
Aside from the 5G Helio M70 modem, the MediaTek chipset also allegedly has a Cortex-A77 CPU and a Mali-77 GPU. Owned 5G network support including the Sub-6 GHz frequency band.
When announcing this 5G chipset some time ago, MediaTek said it would send samples to smartphone manufacturers by the end of 2019.
The first smartphone products that use the 5G chipset made by MediaTek are expected to begin in the first quarter of next year.
