After being first exhibited at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) event in Las Vegas, USA, in January, Samsung is now officially announcing the presence of a 5G modem called Exynos 5100.

Exynos 5100 is Samsung’s first 5G modem and in accordance with 3GPP standards.

Like the modem on the Exynos 9810 chipset on the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 9 smartphones, the Exynos 5100 modem is built on a 10nm manufacturing process that supports older networks such as 2G GSM / CDMA, 3G WCDMA, TD-SCDMA, HSPA, and 4G LTE in one chip.

But most importantly, the modem is a 5G network hardware that fully supports sub-6GHz and the mmWave spectrum determined by 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) so that it can theoretically reach speeds of up to 2Gbps using sub-6GHz frequencies and up to 6Gbps on mmWave.

The transfer speed is called 1.7 times and 5 times faster than its predecessor when using sub-6GHz and mmWave settings.

Samsung said, Exynos 5100 became a major breakthrough for users and helped bring it closer to some of the long-anticipated technologies such as IoT (Internet of Things), holograms, ultra-high resolution video, real-time artificial intelligence (AI), and steering technology autonomous.

The South Korean technology giant also promised to bring the Exynos 5100 modem to consumers by the end of 2018.
