We’ve seen the Facebook Lite and Messenger Lite come off the coffers of Mark Zuckerberg’s wizardry but the light version of Instagram seemed like it was never going to make the light of the day. Good news is, the Instagram Lite version has been sighted on Google Play store. Thus, downloads can commence with immediate effect.
For the uninitiated, the Lite version presents users with the ability to enjoy most of the core features on the main app without consuming too much data. This Instagram Lite version doesn’t consume much space as it weighs only 573kb. This is unlike the Instagram app that takes about 32MB.
A lot of features found on the Instagram app can be accessed on this platform although there are a few limitations. The Direct Message (DM) hasn’t been integrated on this version, so, you can’t send or receive texts on the app. However, there’s a likelihood of this enablement getting into this Lite version later on.
Also, the just-launched Instragram TV (IGTV) isn’t supported on this Lite version. The IGTV is a feature that allows verified Instagram users post videos as long as 60 minutes. IGTV is aimed with a motive to compete with all-time online video streaming platform, YouTube. Mind you, this IGTV also exists as an app. It’s more or less like the Facebook-Messenger relationship.
Back to the matter, you can access features such as: uploading and editing of photos and videos, use of several filters, Instagram stories and many others on this Instagram Lite. Conclusively, the most exciting aspect is the low data consumption yet decent gusto.
You can download the app here – Instagram Lite.
