Facebook is planning on bringing the much-awaited feature that allows you retract sent messages to the Facebook Messenger. The exciting thing is, you’ll have as much as 10 minutes to carry out delete the message once sent.
There are times when you erroneously send a text, image or another form of media on your messenger and you feel like deleting it. The fact that you can’t remove it sometimes make you feel embarrassed.
Well, Facebook has looked into this, and they’re preparing to update Messenger apps in the coming weeks with the “retraction of sent messages” feature.
Of course, you have been able to delete sent messages before, but it’s only from your end that it gets deleted. This new feature will allow you to remove the message from your messenger app as well as the receiver’s messenger app. But you have a window period of 10 minutes to do so.
The official statement read:
“Coming soon: Remove a message from a chat thread after it’s been sent. If you accidentally send the wrong photo, incorrect information or message the wrong thread, you can easily correct it by removing the message within ten minutes of sending it.”
While major Messenger users haven’t seen this feature ever, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg was said to have used it earlier this year. That was when the news about a possible retraction feature came to light. Now, that it’s just a matter of weeks away, every Messenger user can now tap into this untapped resource.
WhatsApp, another messaging app under Facebook, already has this feature. In fact, users have as much as 1 hour to delete messages sent wrongly. Although when it was first implemented, there was only a seven-minute grace to take back sent messages.
Once the messages are deleted, both the sender and recipient will see: ” This message was deleted”. It’s not known whether that will be the result when images are retracted on Facebook Messenger.
