Samsung states that it has sold at least 400,000 units of Galaxy Fold folding screen smartphones by 2019.
The statement also denied previous media reports which said that Samsung had sold 1 million Galaxy Fold devices.
“I think we have sold 400,000 to 500,000 Galaxy Fold smartphones,” Koh Dong-jin, president and CEO of Samsung’s IT & Mobile Communication Division, told reporters at the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) arena in Las Vegas, USA. Yonhap news agency, Thursday (01/09/2020).
Koh’s comment confirms Samsung’s previous response which denied media reports that Samsung had sold 1 million units of Galaxy Fold in 2019.
In December, a Samsung executive who led the Samsung Strategy and Innovation Center, Sohn Young-kwon, at a conference, said that Samsung sold 1 million Galaxy Fold.
However, not long after that Samsung later denied the sales figures, saying that Sohn might mention the initial sales target for 2019.
Galaxy Fold, which has a 7.3-inch screen that can be folded horizontally like a book, officially went on sale in September 2019 for around US $2,000. While in Nigeria, the smartphone is priced at N739,000 naira (click here to check out price).
Many analysts estimate that Samsung will sell around 400,000 to 500,000 units of folding screen smartphones this year.
Meanwhile, Koh said that Samsung will introduce a new ‘clamshell’ folding screen phone in the near future.
The device is scheduled to launch next month and is expected to have a 6.7-inch display and become almost square when folded.
