Google is working hard to make its new Gemini app as good as Google Assistant, but there are still some differences. Gemini doesn’t have features like timers and alarms yet, but they are expected to be added soon. In addition, we’ve learnt that Gemini might also get new voice options. Currently, it only has one male voice. However, Google has started to introduce changes, and some Gemini users are now hearing a new female voice in the app.
Normally, Gemini gives responses in text form, but there is a speaker icon at the top right of each result. When you click on it, the text is read out loud. According to reports from a popular outlet, these readouts are now being done in a new female voice instead of the old male voice.
This change seems to be available on Android smartphones, but it isn’t possible to switch back to the male voice yet. This suggests that Google is still testing new voices for Gemini. The new female voice might be just one of several voices that will be available in the future. For now, this update appears to be limited to Android phones, as the web and iPhone versions of Gemini don’t yet use the new voice but the old male voice.
In comparison, Google Assistant lets users choose from 12 different voices, each one identified by a specific color. Since Google plans to eventually replace Assistant with Gemini, it’s likely they will offer a similar variety of voices to help users feel comfortable with the new app.
Although Gemini isn’t ready to fully replace Google Assistant yet, Google is making progress to ensure users can easily switch to the new chatbot. Besides the upcoming timers and alarms, Gemini has recently gained the ability to respond to questions from the lock screen. This is a helpful addition, but Gemini still lacks some features that are available in Google Assistant.
All in all, while Gemini is improving and adding new features, it still has a way to go before it can match everything that Google Assistant offers. The introduction of new voices is a positive step, and more updates are likely on the way as Google continues to enhance the Gemini app.
