In an unexpected development, Huawei has lifted the embargo on processor details for some of its devices. The company has decided to disclose detailed information about the chipsets used in their latest smartphones. Previously withheld, this chipset information is now available to the public, offering insights into the technology driving these devices.
With this announcement, Huawei users can gain a better understanding of the hardware specifications of their phones. Until now, Huawei had not disclosed details about the specific chipsets in these phones, which were released in September and May. However, according to Gizmochina, a Weibo tipster reported that Huawei’s sales staff are now permitted to share information about the processors.
This change marks a significant shift in Huawei’s approach, as frontline sales representatives can now inform customers about the chipsets powering the recently launched devices. This move by Huawei to lift the embargo on processor details for these phones provides consumers with more transparency regarding the technology in their Huawei phones.
This transparency allows consumers to understand the processors behind the Mate 60, Mate X5, and Pura 70 series models. As revealed by Gizmochina, a Chinese media outlet visited a Huawei flagship store, where staff confirmed that the Mate 60 and Mate X5 series are equipped with Kirin 9000S processors, while the Pura 70 Pro/Ultra models feature the Kirin 9010 chip.
Notably, some of Huawei’s latest international products, such as the MatePad SE 11, MatePad Pro 13.2, and Nova Y62/Plus phones, have their processor models listed on the official website. The previous secrecy regarding chipsets is likely due to the ongoing US sanctions. Huawei’s advanced chip manufacturing has been under scrutiny, and keeping chip details under wraps may have been a tactic to reduce external pressure.
This increased transparency indicates a change in how Huawei handles sales, hinting at more straightforward communication in upcoming product launches. While Huawei now discloses specific processor models, the information remains somewhat restricted. Store personnel are authorized to provide only general details such as the chipset series and generation. Moreover, the precise processor model won’t be displayed in the phone settings.
Meanwhile, Huawei is currently developing its upcoming flagship, the Mate 70 series, slated for release in the fourth quarter of 2024. This new lineup will introduce an enhanced Kirin chipset equipped with AI-driven functionalities, upgraded imaging capabilities, and compatibility with satellite communication. The Mate 70 series will operate on the HarmonyOS Next platform and maintain high-resolution 1.5K displays.
