Some time ago, WhatsApp rolled our this updates on Android for messaging control for administrators in groups. And now, the new features in the update is carried off for the iOS version.
The group admin and others who have admin right can now set that they can only send messages to the group, thus blocking other users. This update can be seen in Group Info under the settings for the group.
Other members can read the message and answer it via a private line via the ‘Message Admin’ option.
This is effective for groups that want to give important announcements to their members, such as parent groups and teachers at school, so all participants read the message.
This setting is not permanent, admins can override these settings in the manner mentioned above.
