The Corning Gorilla Glass 6 has been unveiled as the latest version of the Gorilla Glass. The announcement was made by Corning, the manufacturing company. Corning Gorilla Glass 6 also arrives as the successor to the vibrant Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
The Corning Gorilla Glass 5 has been seen in its top protective mode in several flagship smartphones. Well, the Gorilla Glass 6 is to present even more protective functions. The tests carried out by the OEM showed that this glass offered twice as much protection the Corning Gorilla 5. In details, it was able to survive fifteen drops before eventually yielding to breakage.
A pretty recent survey overseen by Corning revealed that smartphones fall from users at least seven times a year. Therefore, the need for more reliability on screen protection. That’s why more efforts were put into this updated glass.
Also, Corning puts it to us that a new glass material which enhances the level of compression of the glass is the reason behind this recent success.
“Gorilla Glass 6 is an entirely new glass composition that can be chemically strengthened to give it significantly higher levels of compression than is possible with Gorilla Glass 5. This enables Gorilla Glass 6 to be more resistant to damage,” said John Bayne, Vice President, Corning Gorilla Glass in a press release.
This glass is expected to be seen on new smartphones in the near future. In fact, as soon as 2019, flagship smartphones might start donning the protective piece of tech from Corning.
As it stands, over 45 brands across the world have the Corning Gorilla Glass in more than six million devices they have manufactured. That figure is about to shoot up with this innovation.
