Just a few weeks after launching, Samsung’s folding screen smartphone, the Galaxy Fold, already has competitors. Because, Huawei has just inaugurated their folding screen smartphone called Huawei Mate X in the MWC 2019 event which is now underway in Barcelona, Spain.
In this article, we are going to have a thorough look at this device, all its specifications and features.
Let’s delve right in.
Huawei Mate X Quick Review!
Armed with the support of 5G network technology, Mate X comes with an 8-inch screen when the display is stretched. When folded, the screen shrinks to 6.6 inches. This device has a thickness of 5.4mm when stretched, while when folded, the thickness becomes 11mm.
Huawei Mate X comes with a bezel-less design on all four sides. There are three cameras that can be used as the main camera and a selfie camera.
These cameras are produced by renowned manufacturers, Leica, like several other Huawei smartphone models. Unfortunately, there is no mention of how many camera sensors are carried.
For the chipset and storage department, Mate X relies on the Kirin 980 chipset as in the Mate 20 Pro, which is matched with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of internal memory that can be expanded with an external memory card.
The 5G support on Mate X is only available for one SIM slot. One other slot can be used for 4G SIM. A smartphone that runs on the Android 9 Pie operating system with the EMUI 9.1.1 interface.
The Huawei Mate X battery with a 4500mAh capacity is also equipped with 55w fast charging capabilities that can be charged up to 100 percent under an hour, while 30 minutes for charging 85 percent.
Its security still relies on a fingerprint sensor placed on the side of the device, not inside the screen or commonly called in-display fingerprint scanner which has now been widely adopted by flagship-class smartphone products.
Huawei Mate X is priced at a price that is quite expensive for the size of a smartphone (even a tablet), which is $2,600 (around N945,000 naira), even the Samsung Galaxy Fold priced at $1,980 (around N716,000 naira) isn’t as expensive as the Mate X. This folding screen device is promised to be available from mid-2019.
