Xiaomi announced it would stop supporting software updates for some of their older smartphones.
Quoting the GSM Arena, the announcement was delivered by an Mi community admin through China and India Mi Community forum some time ago.
On the forum, he said that Xiaomi would stop the distribution of ROM or developers firmware for developers to the Redmi series that launched before 2016.
This means that smartphones such as the Redmi Note 3 or Redmi 3S can certainly not be updated with the developer ROM or beta ROM of the Global version for the latest MIUI version.
With this decision, Xiaomi advised the 2016 Redmi series smartphone owners to update their ROMs to a stable version, not the developer version.
It aims to avoid bugs and disruption of excessive performance on old Redmi smartphones because developers ROMs are usually full of bugs and have not been tested.
Although the firmware update will be stopped, but it does not rule out the possibility that a series of old Redmi smartphones will get security updates from Xiaomi later on.
Here’s a list of Xiaomi Redmi series smartphones that won’t be able to support software updates again in the future:
- Xiaomi Redmi Note 4
- Xiaomi Redmi 3S
- Xiaomi Redmi 3X
- Xiaomi Redmi 4
- Xiaomi Redmi 4A
- Xiaomi Redmi Note 3
- Xiaomi Redmi Pro
At the same time, regarding firmware or ROM, Xiaomi is also reportedly developing the MIUI 11 ROM which is predicted to bring in a number of new features.
Some of these include new interface design, new icon design and more. Unfortunately, a series of Redmi smartphones included in the above list will not be able to taste these features in the latest interface of this Xiaomi.
