Qualcomm releases its Quick Charge technology update. This fast battery charging technology is promised to support cheaper devices.
To note, in addition to the Snapdragon chipset, Qualcomm also created other technologies that can improve smartphone performance, namely Qualcomm Quick Charge.
The technology, which was first released in 2017, now has entered version 4+. Many thought, Qualcomm will present Quick Charge 5+ after the Quick Charge 4+ update was released.
Apparently these estimates are wrong. Qualcomm apparently presents Quick Charge 3+ for affordable class smartphones. This Qualcomm Quick Charge 3+ will be pinned along with Snapdragon 765 and 765G chipsets.
Quick Charge 3+ is as fast as Quick Charge 4+. However, Quick Charge 3+ works with a power adapter that uses a USB cable Type-A to Type-C. This type of cable is more affordable than the USB Type-C used in newer smartphones.
That is, device makers can save a little on the cost of these components, while still offering Quick Charge 3+ technology on the phones they sell. These savings are expected to be passed on to consumers.
“This technology can recharge batteries from 0-50% in 15 minutes,” as quoted by Qualcomm via Gizmochina.
“Quick Charge 3+ is also compatible with devices that use previous generations of technology. That is, fast charging technology can also work on phones that support Quick Charge 3 or below,” Qualcomm added.
One of the phones that will be supported by this technology is the Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite Zoom which uses the Snapdragon 765G chip. Qualcomm plans to expand Quick Charge 3+ support to more chip types in the future.
