Clubhouse is now officially out of beta and all iOS and Android, users can join the audio chat application to chat with other people on the platform.
But recently there was shocking news from a security researcher named Marc Ruef who said that he found a user on a dark web forum who is now selling phone number data from Clubhouse users.
It is stated that the data taken from the Clubhouse database contains 3.8 billion telephone numbers. But the question is how can Clubhouse have a database of 3.8 billion phone numbers when there aren’t that many users now?
It was stated that the data was obtained because Clubhouse apparently also stored a phone number from the contact list of each user which was used to find out whether the number was using Clubhouse or not.
“Full phone number database of Clubhouse is up for sale on the Darknet. It contains 3.8 billion phone numbers. These are not just members but also people in contact lists that were synced. Chances are high that you are listed even if you haven’t had a Clubhouse login.” wrote Marc Ruef on his Twitter account.
But Clubhouse has clarified and said that there were no signs Clubhouse database had been leaked or hacked. Therefore, it is possible that the database sold on the dark web is fake data that is generated.
