Apple, according to Bloomberg, is planning to partner with an additional AI partner ahead of the official launch of its own AI, namely Google Gemini. The company plans to integrate its AI platform, Apple Intelligence with Gemini. It might be surprising for Apple users, but at the same time, not so surprising since the year 2024 has been dominated by advancements in artificial intelligence.
Apple joined the AI trend by unveiling its own platform called “Apple Intelligence.” This announcement included a significant integration with OpenAI to bring ChatGPT capabilities to iPhones. It now seems that Apple is looking to expand its AI offerings further, with reports suggesting that Google Gemini may also be integrated into iPhones in the near future.
Meanwhile, Apple is exploring the potential of monetizing its Apple Intelligence service, with plans to possibly introduce paid features in the future. However, this initiative appears to be part of a longer-term strategy. Initially, Apple Intelligence features will be available on a limited number of iPhone and Mac models.
The practical benefits of these AI features are still unclear, as they have not yet been released to the public. What’s surprising about this change is that Apple is trying something new. Usually, Apple doesn’t give users many options and sticks to its own technology. But now, with AI, Apple is including models from other companies in its devices, giving users more choices.
This might only be a temporary solution while Apple fully develops its own AI. By using rival AI models for now, Apple is offering more options, which is different from its usual habit of only using its own technology. In all of these, however, the company sees significant revenue potential in its own AI, Apple Intelligence, down the line.
According to Android Police, Apple is looking into deals with both Google and Anthropic, which is supported by Amazon. It’s expected that the deal with Google for integration of Apple Intelligence with Gemini will be announced first. If this happens, Apple users will get to use Apple Intelligence, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and Google Gemini on their devices.
Having all these AI tools available would be a significant feature for Apple devices. While another outlet mentioned that Apple was also in talks with Meta, the parent company of Facebook, to integrate the Llama chatbot into iPhone, Bloomberg reports that Apple isn’t interested in using Meta’s chatbot because they believe OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic are better options.
Even though Apple isn’t planning to use Meta’s service, you can still expect to see ChatGPT and Google Gemini on iPhones later this year. These chatbots are considered some of the best available and will likely be integrated into iPhones soon.
