With 2017 coming to an end, rumours have been swirling around of Samsung’s new flagship Samsung Galaxy S9. The Samsung Galaxy S8 hit stores in April 2017 with the Samsung Galaxy S9 expected to be released a little earlier than its predecessor. Samsung will be looking to deliver a worthy flagship device and consequently escape the shadow set by the iPhone X.
The rumours about the phone’s features are becoming more rampant with the release date drawing closer with Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon 845 processor most likely to power the Galaxy S9.
This smartphone is expected to debut a series of hardware and software upgrades. Industry rumours are suggesting there will be little design difference between the upcoming flagship and the Galaxy S8.
Samsung Galaxy S9 Design
The Samsung Galaxy S9 will be based on the Galaxy S8 design hence slight modifications of its looks are expected. This flagship device will spot the infinity display at 18.5:9 ratios with the bezels on top and bottom thinner compared with the Galaxy S8.
The power button will be located on the right side with the Bixby button and volume rocker found on the right side. Furthermore, the camera and fingerprint scanner are conveniently placed at the back with the 3.5mm audio jack making a return at the bottom alongside the USB-C and the speaker.
Samsung Galaxy S9 Dimension
Samsung Galaxy S8 spotted a 5.8in Screen, the phone measuring 148.9mm by 68.1mm and it’s 8 mm and weighs 155g. Galaxy S9 is expected to feature a 5.8in screen, 7.6mm slim and weigh less than its predecessor.
Reports of in-screen scanner on the S9 have been circulating but industry rumours suggest it won’t be ready in time. In-screen scanner is expected to debut with the Galaxy Note 9 later in 2018.
Samsung Galaxy S9 Specifications
The Galaxy S9 is expected to debut the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor and also run on Android 8.0 Oreo.
Other features to expect are:
- A rear 12MP (f/1.6, 26mm, 1/2.5″, 1.4 µm, Dual Pixel PDAF) camera and a front-facing 8MP camera.
- 4GB RAM
- 64GB,128GB and 256GB storage options
- Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C 3.1 and the 3.5mm audio jack
- A 3650 mAh battery
- Iris Scanner
Samsung Galaxy S9 Price
Galaxy S9 price leaks have not been confirmed but a look at other Samsung flagships such as Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+ and Note 8 which launched at $689, $779 and $869 respectively. As a result of the price of previous flagship devices, the Galaxy S9 is estimated to be within the range of $700–$820.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 will be announced in February 2018 while sales will begin before April runs out. If the rumours in the run-up to Galaxy S9’s debut are true, the Apple iPhone X has found itself a worthy opponent.
