The performance of God of War is extra impressive when you look at the competition: Red Dead Redemption 2, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Spider-Man and Monster Hunter: World. Another surprising title in the shortlist of ‘Game of the Year’ is Celeste, an indie platformer of the two developers Matt Thorson and Noel Berry. That game eventually won the awards of ‘Games for Impact’ and ‘Best Independent Game’.
Shannon Studstill did not stand still and received the award in the name of Santa Monica Studios. She also addressed a word of thanks to Shuhei Yoshida, CEO of Sony Worldwide Studios
Cory Barlog, the game director, used his moment on stage for an inspiring message. “Every game that is present here tonight is a true masterpiece, let’s hear it for all titles,” was Cory’s message. “Let yourself be heard by every creator, creators of games, films, comic strips and all other types of creators who enrich our lives and make us believe that magic exists.”
Red Dead Redemption 2 obviously also won a lot of prizes, including best story, best music, best sound and best acting for Roger Clark as Arthur Morgan. Fortnite won two awards, including best multiplayer game and best ongoing game. The complete list of winners can be viewed through the official website of The Game Awards.
