Meizu Zero Is the World’s First Smartphone Without USB Port, Buttons, Speaker Grille & SIM slot

Zero in the sense that USB port is not found, physical buttons are absent, speaker grille is absent, and there’s also no SIM slot available. Wow!

Meizu Zero Quick Review

To start with, there are no volume rocker nor power button on the phone. For this purpose, touch capacitive panels are placed on the sides of the smartphone. These pressure sensitive panels are similar to what HTC did in the HTC U12+, the squeezable smartphone. Meizu created a problem, now they’ve solved it.

For the USB port absence, your most likely guess is Wireless Charging technology, and that’s the exact thing that was done to the device. It charges wirelessly with 18W Charging tech. Hence, there’s a follow-come charging mat in the phone’s package.

Your next concern will be about data transfers. The only little challenge is that such transfers can only be done via mobile networks and Wi-Fi. So, Xender, Flash Share and the rest will come in handy.

No speaker grille does not mean no speaker at all. A piezoelectric transducer that lies under the display is what projects sound externally. There’s no 3.5mm audio jack on the device. Knowing fully well that USB port is also not present, it means USB-C audio can’t be used either. Therefore, only wireless headphones can be used.

The total removal of SIM card slot allows room for utilisation of an eSIM. An eSIM is also called an Embedded SIM, mostly about 6mm that comes pre-installed on the device. With the eSIM aboard, you aren’t confined to one SIM operator either do you have to worry about physical SIM cards.

In other aspects, you have 5.99-inch AMOLED screen, Android 9.0 Pie OS, in-display fingerprint scanner, Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, 12MP + 20MP rear cameras and 20MP selfie camera.
