Microsoft recently announced that it will discontinue support for its cloud storage application, OneDrive, for devices running Windows 7, 8, and 8.1.

It is known that starting January 1, 2022, users who are still running the ‘legacy’ Windows operating system will no longer get updates and sync features with the cloud. Microsoft said that this was done because it wanted to focus its resources on bringing more features to users with newer operating systems.

“This decision is to focus resources on the latest technology and operating systems, and also to provide the best and safest experience for users,” said OneDrive representatives quoted from Bleeping Computer.

More so, Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 users can still use the web version of OneDrive which can be accessed via any browser.

Finally, Microsoft urges users of the old version of the Windows operating system to immediately upgrade to the latest version such as Windows 10 or Windows 11 which was recently launched.

For your information, OneDrive is a cloud storage service made by Microsoft which enable users to store any file in OneDrive and can be accessed easily on any device.
