Are you a serious gamer looking to relive classic PSP games on your Android smartphone? You’re in luck! With the PPSSPP emulator, you can now enjoy high-quality PSP games right on your Android device with smooth gameplay, HD graphics, and easy setup.
In this article on Naijaknowhow, you’ll learn how to play PSP games on Android using the PPSSPP Emulator, which is one of the best PSP emulators available for mobile.
Why Play PSP Games on Android?
PSP games are known for their immersive gameplay, HD-quality graphics, and console-like experience. Even though they were originally designed for Sony’s PlayStation Portable (PSP), advancements in Android emulators have made it possible to play these games on smartphones.
So if you’re ready to bring back memories from titles like God of War, PES, Tekken, and more, here’s a complete guide on how to get started.
Step-by-Step Guide to Play PSP Games on Android
Step 1: Download the PPSSPP Emulator
To get started, download the PPSSPP – PSP Emulator from the Google Play Store. You will find lots of PSP emulators in the Play Store. Of the many emulators available, we recommend that you use the PPSSPP PSP Emulator.
We recommend it because we’ve used it, and that is what we will be using for this tutorial. The PPSSPP emulator on the Google Play Store has two versions:
- Free version (with ads): Download PPSSPP – PSP Emulator
- Gold version (ad-free, supports the developers): Download PPSSPP Gold – PSP Emulator (Price: ₦500)
Minimum Android requirement: Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) or higher.
Step 2: Download PSP Game Files (ISO or CSO)
PPSSPP uses game files in .ISO or .CSO format. You can download PSP game ROMs from trusted sources online. Most files are compressed in .RAR or .ZIP format. If you’re yet to download an ISO file, then click here to see a list of top games to download.

Step 3: Install and Load the Game
Once you have the emulator and the game file:
- Open the PPSSPP Emulator on your Android device.
- Tap the Games tab at the top.
- Browse your folders to locate where the .ISO or .CSO file is saved.
- Tap on the game icon to launch it.
- Your game will now begin running on your device.
Step 4: Start Playing
PPSSPP will display virtual on-screen controls similar to the PSP, including directional keys and action buttons.
For the controller, you will see buttons on the screen such as up, down, right, left, and several other buttons. At first, it might be a bit difficult because the buttons are different from the presence of physical buttons like the PSP, but over time, you will definitely get used to using them.
Tips:
- It might feel awkward at first, but you’ll get used to the touch controls.
- You can customise the button layout and graphic settings in Settings > Controls/Graphics for a smoother experience.
