Google’s YouTube video-sharing application is the number one photo and video application in the world, according to market research firm Sensor Tower.

In Q2 2019, YouTube was said to reap revenues of around US $138 million or (N50.1b naira in Nigeria) which came from user spending. This figure increased by 220 percent when compared to the same period last year.

Citing The Next Web, as much as 70 percent of revenue from Google’s video application comes from YouTube users in the US. Meanwhile, 7 percent came from Japan and 4 percent came from England.

Under YouTube, there is a short video application made by Tencent, Kwai, which is gaining revenue from user spending of around US $ 78 million (N28.3b naira in Nigeria) in Q2 2019.

Furthermore, there is the popular short video application TikTok, the 17 LiveAF video application, and the PicsArt photo and video sharing application, which follows the Kwai application.

Interestingly, the three largest photo and video applications in the world that have been mentioned by Sensor Tower were not in the list of the top three applications with the most revenue on the Google Play Store.

On the Android application provider platform, the top three positions are respectively filled by 17 LiveAF, Twitch and PicsArt.

While on the Apple App Store, the top three positions are still occupied by YouTube, Kwai, and TikTok, as applications with the most revenue from user spending.

However, SensorTower does not list the revenues of the top three photo and video applications on the two official application provider platforms.

SensorTower recorded user spending revenue in the second quarter of this year from April 1 to June 30 last.

The total number recorded by SensorTower also does not include revenue from third-party Android application provider platforms.
