WhatsApp plans to integrate the Novi digital wallet to allow users to make payments globally via the instant messaging application.
“This integration allows users to send money globally via digital wallets,” reads the XDA Developers report, Tuesday (9/11/2021).
It is likely that the platform will require the user to submit an identity for verification. However, WhatsApp has yet to confirm the integration.
Not only that but WhatsApp users may also be asked to upload their documents for verification before activating the transfer experience via a digital wallet.
Late last month, WhatsApp feature tracking platform WABetaInfo reported referencing Novi integration in beta version 2.21.22.17. Screenshots were shared online as evidence to suggest new experiences.
Not long after, Facebook announced the change of name to Meta. David Marcus, Head of FinTech Unit at Meta announced that the parent company is unifying payments and financial services and products under the Novi brand.
Facebook initially launched the Novi digital wallet as a small example in the US and Guatemala to enter the digital remittance space. But, it seems to go beyond these two markets and offer Novi to a large number of WhatsApp users from time to time.
