Xiaomi has registered a new patent at the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) office for two new folded smartphone designs.
Two designs of Xiaomi’s patented smartphones, one of which has a horizontal folding mechanism and the other vertical or clamshell.
Which folds horizontally, when closed, this device has two screens on the outside.
And when not in a folded position, this handset opens to the outside with two screens fused like two mobile screens that are lined up without borders.
In the open position of this smartphone the size of a small book that is opened. This smartphone’s camera is placed next to the screen precisely in the outer frame.
With a two folding screen design on the outside side of the fold, and one side has a camera, this is apparent the camera has a dual function as the main camera as well as a selfie camera.
Another possibility, Xiaomi plant a selfie camera behind one side of the camera so it is not visible on the surface of the screen.
The second patented design is a clamshell folding cellphone with a folding mechanism like the Motorola Razr. However, it is unclear whether this opens to the outside or vice versa.
For this smartphone, Xiaomi places the main camera on one part of the screen – it appears in the picture when the phone is in the folded position.
Unlike the first cellphone design, this second camera is placed on the screen in a position on the upper left side. So the camera’s sensor hole stands out.
There has been no official explanation in more detail from Xiaomi about the Xiaomi folding phone whose patent is being registered.
