Several years ago Instagram had launched an application called Threads which was started as a standalone messaging application that allows users to send messages to Instagram users via Direct Messages.
Initially, Threads was introduced to allow users to communicate without having to install the main application, i.e Instagram.
However, because of its low popularity, Instagram has now decided to terminate its messaging application service. Quoted from TechCrunch, Instagram announced that the Threads app will be removed by the end of this year.
Apart from being unpopular, currently, Instagram has integrated the Messenger application which makes the Threads application not useful anymore. If not done, users could find it confusing choosing between Messenger or Threads.
“We know that people care about connecting with their close friends, and we’ve seen this particularly over the past few years with the growth of messaging on Instagram. We’re now focusing our efforts on enhancing how you connect with close friends on Instagram, and deprecating the Threads app,” Instagram wrote via the official statement.
Based on data seen on the Google Play Store, the Threads application has been downloaded more than five million times even though the rating on this application is quite low at 2.3.
