Renowned mobile chip maker, MediaTek has taken the wraps off the MediaTek Helio P90, its latest flagship chipset. The chipset serves as the successor to the MediaTek Helio P70 SoC that was announced about two months ago.
The central focus of this high-end SoC is its AI action boost. To this note, the second edition of MediaTek’s APU AI architecture gets on board. In comparison with its predecessor, the chipset boasts of three times better AI performance. Also, it’s got four times faster CPU efficiency than the Helio P70 & Helio P60 SoCs.
Unlike its other P-series members, the chip comes equipped with Google Lens and ARCore. Nonetheless, the Taiwanese chip manufacturer will update the Helio P70 & Helio P60 with the above-supported features in upcoming weeks.
For specifics, the chipset is built on 12nm TSMC FinFET process & packs an eight-core CPU. The CPU comprises 2x ARM Cortex-A75 running at 2.2GHz, and 6x ARM Cortex-A55 clocked at 2.0GHz.
It also shines the spotlight on better smartphone photography due to its 48MP resolution support at 30fps. If it isn’t 48MP, the chip can support dual cameras of 24MP & 16MP at the same frame per seconds. Added to this, triple ISP ensures that the cameras produce enhanced AI-assisted images.
Regarding the AI improvement, TL Lee, MediaTek’s Business General Manager said:
“The Helio P90 is an AI processing powerhouse with ultra-fast performance and a host of AI-powered imaging improvements. this chip will reset consumer expectations of what a smartphone can do, and bring in a new era of super high-resolution smartphone photography to the market.”
To discharge graphics, a fresh IMG PowerVR GM9446 is stationed as the GPU. With the GPU’s Core Pilot technology, it delivers 15% better performance than its predecessor’s Mali-G72 MP3 GPU.
It will also support phone displays with revamped Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2580 & a staggering 21:9 aspect ratio. With regards to connectivity, the following are supported: Bluetooth 5.0, Dual SIM Dual VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Cat 12 DL / Cat 13 UL & 4×4 MIMO.
Smartphones with Helio P90 SoC will hit the shelves in the Q1 2019.
Meanwhile, the MediaTek Helio P70 SoC arrived officially in the Realme U1 last month.
