Over the past few years, Samsung has succeeded in dominating the smartphone market. This can happen because Samsung has many products ranging from low-end smartphones to flagships. That’s why this domination doesn’t surprise people anymore.
But what surprises many people today is how Apple has successfully overtaken Samsung’s dominance. Yes, it is known that for the first time since 2016, Apple managed to beat Samsung.
Based on a report from Gartner, it was stated that Apple experienced an increase in smartphone sales by 14.9% YoY (Year-on-Year), whereas Samsung experienced a decrease in sales of 11.8%.
It is stated that in 2020 Apple managed to increase sales of its new smartphones by 3.3% while Samsung actually experienced another 14.6% decline. Even though the smartphones that Samsung released last year were also quite a lot.
According to the Research Director of Gartner, Anshul Gupta, it was stated that what made sales of Apple-made smartphones increase was the presence of 5G support, which people are now starting to need.
“Sales of 5G smartphones and smartphones in the lower to mid category managed to cover the shortfall in the fourth quarter of 2020,” said Gupta as quoted by Ubergizmo .
However, it is not known whether Samsung will succeed in overtaking Apple and taking its position again or not. Certainly, this will be a challenge for Apple to maintain its dominance.
