Google explains why their products cannot be used on Huawei smartphones.
Through the support page for the Android community, Google tells what happened to Huawei after the US government banned companies in the country from cooperating with companies from China.
“Our focus is protecting the security of Google users on millions of Huawei devices around the world,” writes Tristan Ostrowski, director of law for Android and Play.
The Google representative wrote a thread titled ‘Answering your questions on Huawei devices and Google services’ on Google’s official help page.
The utility is locked so that the user cannot answer questions in the forum.
The US government banned Google from cooperating with Huawei after they put the Chinese company on the Entity List, a list of companies that were blocked, on May 16, 2019.
After these rules, Google is prohibited from providing applications such as Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Play Store and other pre-loaded applications on new Huawei devices.
This rule only applies to new devices, while old Huawei devices before May 16, 2019 continue to get support from Google.
“We continue to work with Huawei, while complying with government regulations, to provide security updates for Google applications and services on existing devices. We will continue to do so as long as we are allowed,” Google said.
“Due to government restrictions, Google applications and services are not available for preload or sideload on new Huawei devices,” Google continued.
Huawei devices released after May 16, 2019 also cannot get Play Protect security certification. Google is rigorously reviewing Play Protect-certified devices to ensure the safety of user data and information about applications.
This Play Protect certification also allows phones to be installed with Play Store and key applications from Google such as Gmail, YouTube and Maps.
Huawei devices released after May 16, 2019 are classified as not having Play Protect certification so they cannot be installed with services and applications from Google.
Google said their application could not be downloaded, sideload, on devices that were not certified due to security issues.
In the article, Google wrote they often get questions about whether the latest Huawei devices will get applications from Google and whether users can install Google applications if they buy a Huawei phone.
