For the first time in the history of smartphone cameras, 108MP camera sensor is making its way to the smartphone industry through Samsung. Proudly announced as the Samsung ISOCELL Bright HMX, the 108MP mobile camera sensor was developed in partnership with Chinese OEM, Xiaomi.
Speaking on the Samsung’s innovation as well as the motive for the Xiaomi partnership, Samsung Electronics’ Executive Vice President of sensor business said:
“Samsung is continuously pushing for innovations in pixel and logic technologies to engineer our ISOCELL image sensors to capture the world as close to how our eyes perceive them. Through close collaboration with Xiaomi, ISOCELL Bright HMX is the first mobile image sensor to pack over 100 million pixels and delivers unparalleled color reproduction and stunning detail with advanced Tetracell and ISOCELL Plus technology.”
In addition to the Tetracell and ISOCELL feats, the smartphone camera captures images with resolutions that can be likened to those of top class DSLRs. I’m talking about resolutions as high as 12032 x 9024 pixels. This is all thanks to its stunning 1/1.133″ sensor size, a first for any smartphone camera. It works by absorbing enormous lights in poorly lit conditions and bright conditions too. More so, it own a 0.8µm pixel size that helps in that regard.
Even video resolutions as high as 6K can be recorded at 30fps frame rate. Also, in line with AI technology, the Smart-ISO helps adjust ISO settings to balance with environmental conditions.
With the look of things, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 is considered to be the first smartphone that will sport this Samsung ISOCELL Bright HMX camera sensor. Once that occurs, it’ll make further statements about Xiaomi in the phone industry. Prior to this 108MP mobile camera sensor, Xiaomi had announced a Redmi phone with 64MP camera also with Samsung 64MP ISOCELL sensor.
