And before you can open an account that’ll receive dollars in Nigeria, there are some certain documents that you’ll need to provide, you can see the documents needed below.

  • Wema Bank

Documents Needed To Open a Dollar Account in Nigeria

Before you can open a domiciliary (dollar) account in Nigeria, you must possess certain documents that will clear you to be fit and capable of becoming a dollar account holder in Nigeria. These documents are details you’re familiar with, so it shouldn’t be much of a problem for you.

But you need to know that all banks in Nigeria need different but slightly the same documents before you can open a dollar account online with them. But the requirements I’ve written below should be noted because they’re common in most banks in Nigeria.

  • Bank Identification Number (BVN).
  • A utility bill within the last 3 to 1 month.
  • 1 or 2 passport photographs.
  • Valid means of identification (either your international passport, permanent voters’ card, National ID card or NIN Slip or a driver’s license.
  • Reference: Someone with a current account (with or without the same bank). Note: In some banks like the United Bank of Africa (UBA), referees aren’t really that mandatory if the domiciliary account you want to open isn’t expected to receive funds under $6,000. But if you’re expected to receive more than that, then a referee is needed.

To open a dollar account online with any of the listed banks, you’ll need to follow the steps given below, I’ve made sure to make all of the listed banks have their own separate steps.

Follow the steps below if you want to know how to open a dollar account that can receive dollars into your UBA domiciliary account here in Nigeria.

  • Visit the UBA Instant Account Opening Page you can do that via this UBA Instant Account Opening Link.
  • A new page will open once you click on the link, once the page has opened, click on ‘Select Country’ and choose Nigeria, then click on Submit.
  • Once submitted, on the new page, under Account Type, click on Open With BVN and wait for a new page to be loaded once you’ve chosen to open an account with your BVN.
  • You’ll need to enter your BVN, Phone Number, Email Address, and Date of Birth (Make Sure Your Date of Birth Matches the one on your BVN). Then under Account Type, select Freedom Savings Domiciliary, and agree to terms by ticking the I agree with the terms and conditions then click on Next.
  • Wait for an OTP code that’ll be sent to your BVN registered phone number, once you’ve entered the OTP, you’ll be taken to another page.
  • On the new page, fill in the required details and click on Submit, if all details pass validation and confirmation, you’ll receive an SMS of your dollar account being created successfully after 24 hours.

Opening a dollar account online with Zenith bank is very easy, you don’t really have to go through much work, everything will be done in PDF form and make sure you have a good PDF Reader on your phone or PC.

  • The first thing you need to do is download the Zenith Bank Account Form, you can do that by clicking on this link to download the form.
  • Open a PDF reader or a PDF editor on your device, make sure you fill in all the required details, and under Category of Account, tick Domiciliary and also tick on $. Upload the passport image to the PDF file and save it.

ALAT by Wema is a digital banking app from Wema Bank and with this app, you can have a dollar account easily when you register on the ALAT app, follow the steps below to know how you can create a dollar account with the Wema Alat app.

  • You need to download the ALAT app on your Android or iOS device, you can download it directly by using this link for Android and also for iOS.
  • Create your account and verify your details with your BVN and your NIN.
  • Once your Wema account is ready, click on My Account and create a dom account, select USD as your preferred domiciliary account type.
